Modi to lay foundation stone for new Goa airport

Panaji, Nov 4 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on November 13 lay the foundation stone for Goa's new greenfield international airport at Mopa plateau in Goa, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said on Thursday.

"Modi-ji will also lay the foundation stone for the electronic manufacturing park at Tuem village during his three-hour visit to Goa," Parsekar said.

The new airport -- about 50 km from capital Panaji -- will be developed by GMR airports limited, which is also operating the international airport in the national capital.

The Chief Minister said Modi would be addressing a public meeting at the Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee indoor stadium located on the outskirts of Panaji, which is expected to be attended by around 10,000 to 12,000 people.

Modi's last visit to the coastal state was last month, when he hosted the BRICS summit in South Goa.
