Riyadh, Nov 3: Konkan Ghar Riyadh (KGR) successfully held its fourth annual sports meet in Riyadh on October 28.
The sports day started early morning with the preliminary rounds of volleyball and throw ball matches played amongst the four houses; Blue house, Green house, Red house and Yellow house.
On completion of the preliminary rounds, KGR 2016 annual sports day inaugural ceremony kick-started. Edmond Lewis Sastan compered the inaugural ceremony and elucidated the purpose of the sports meet to the gathered sports lovers.
Eric D'Sa, Pangla, in his welcome speech, expressed his appreciation to all members and sponsors for their support and attendance in large numbers on the day. He invited all the participants to take part in the events with the ethos of true sportsmanship.
The sports event was inaugurated with the very age old tradition of lighting the ceremonious lamp by the guests, sponsors and the KGR representatives. Suneetha Menezes Miyar led the gathering into prayer befitting the occasion. Sports meet oath was recited by Godwin Mendonca Mudarangadi. Sponsors of the event were honoured with KGR mementos.
On the occasion, ‘Encounter’ a collection of poems by Wilson Roshan Sequeira Kateel, was released by Kingsley Fernandes, Air India Airlines manager of Riyadh region.
The classic sports parade led by the captains of the four houses; Joyson Pinto of Blue team, Anil Moras of Green team, Joyson Sequirea of Red team and Kiran Machado of Yellow team with their respective team members to the march-fast beat added colour to the sports meet.
Sports meet hit the ground with a chain of games.
Children up to first standard took part in 50 meter race and throwing the ball into the bucket games. 'Kick the ball between the stumps' was conducted for children of age group studying in second to fourth standard.
While children of age group studying in fifth to seventh standard took park in 'Lemon and spoon race', children of age group studying in 8th to 10th Std participated in 'Needle and thread race'.
100 meter race was conducted for children of age groups studying in first to fourth standard, fifth to seventh standard and eight to tenth standard for boys and girls separately.
All the children enthusiastically participated in 'filling the ball with water by using sponge' game.
Gents and ladies below 40 years of age and above 40 years of age took part in 100 meter race, 3-legged race, sack race and shot put and drew attention and applause from the crowd.
Stringing the Macaroni game was organized for the age group of 50 years and above category, which stimulated lots of fun and entertainment.
Amitha Royston Prabhu Bejai kept the children busy by conducting a variety of indoor games and winners were awarded with prizes.
Late evening, it was the dual finale of ladies throwball match between green house and yellow house, and men's volleyball match between blue house and yellow house, that evoked great interest and enthusiasm among the crowd and made the spectators to be on their toes cheering their respective teams. While the throwball champions trophy was grabbed by green house, volleyball champions trophy was clinched by blue team.
During the sports presentation and valedictory ceremony; first, second and third place winners, both, in the individual as well as group category, were invited to the victory stand and were felicitated with gold, silver and bronze medals and bouquets.
The house championship was won by Green house with 83 points while the first runner up was secured by Blue house with 81 points. Yellow house and Red house finished their point tally with 45 and 37 points respectively. Championship Trophy and the first runner up trophy were presented to respective team captains along with their team as the gathered crowd applauded the winning teams.
Registration counter at the event was well organized by Victor Menezes Thottam Roland D’Souza Kalmadi and Nelson D’Souza kinnigoli.
The scorer Alwyn D'Souza Niddodi did an excellent job by keeping track of the score and Edmond Lewis Sastan coordinated on the ground sports activities. Royston Prabhu Bejai, with his live commentary added sparks to the sports meet. To enhance sporting spirit, there was sensational and lively music in the background by DJ Rayan Rodrigues Moodbidri.
To satisfy the appetite, very delicious breakfast, snacks, tea, soft drinks, and sumptuous lunch and dinner were catered to all the members.

Savita Aranaha Shirva, proposed the vote of thanks during the sports presentation and valedictory ceremony. All the members participated in sports and enjoyed every moment without considering the age limit. All in all, there was plenty of excitement and competition in the air throughout the day as the participants of all age groups took part in various events.
