'Goa Youth Festival' on Jan 12 and 13

Margao, Jan 6: The 13th ‘Goa Youth Festival 2007’, under the auspices of the Konkani Bhasha Mandal (KBM) and Srujan Sanstha - Sanguem, will be held on the police station playground at Sanguem January 12 and 13, 2008.

As part of the festival, sports minister Manohar "Babu" Azgaonkar inaugurated the two-day sports festival on January 5 at Neturlem, a verdant place of Goa boundary, located at 75 kms from here.

Langadi, Tablam, Logoreo, Panch Fator, Sakanni (Sack), Koinde Ball, Cockfight and other traditional sports, which are going to be extinct, were to be played in the two-day festival.

KBM, with a view to providing encouragement and platform to the talent of the youth from every corner of Goa and to preserve the indigenous art and music, has been organizing the enthusiastic gala event for last 12 years.

This year festival has added some unique programmes in it. Holding of traditional sports and games would be one of them.

Sanguem MLA Vasudev Gaonkar is heading the reception Committee.

Winning groups are awarded attractive prizes on the concluding day. When contacted, KBM president Purnanand Chari said that this year more youths were expected to take part than last year. The sports festival would also be more unique this time.
