Berlin, Oct 29 (IANS): Monchengladbach and Frankfurt played out a goalless stalemate in the opening game of the ninth round in the German Bundesliga.
Both sides staged a well-positioned defence over 90 minutes on Friday and neutralized every offensive action. Hence, the 53,000 spectators at the Borussia Park here saw just a few goal scoring opportunities, reports Xinhua.
Frankfurt were the better team in the first half as the "Eagles" worked out the first chance of the game with 24 minutes into the encounter when Branimir Hrgota rattled the side netting from promising position.
After the restart, Frankfurt's Omar Mascarell tested Monchengladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer with a long-range effort in the 54th minute. However, the hosts ensured the best chance of the game to break the deadlock but Frankfurt custodian Lukas Hradecky tipped Oscar Wendt's shot on target to the bar in the 71st minute.
It remained the last opportunity in a game with just a few highlights. With the result, Monchengladbach had their third draw of the season to move to the eighth place for now while Frankfurt rose to sixth.
Commenting on the game, Monchengladbach coach Andre Schubert said: "The draw is OK. We had just one chance and we lacked in creativity."
