Exercise to assess effectiveness of Goa fishing community


Panaji, Oct 22 (IANS): A two-day multi-agency coastal security drill "Sagar Kavach" will be conducted in Goa from October 25 to test the effectiveness of the coastal fishing community, an official said on Friday.

"The exercise is aimed to asses and provide seamless seaward cover along the Goa coast, jointly by all security agencies from coastal belt area line to the limit of territorial water i.e. 12 nautical miles. It will assess the effectiveness of coastal fishing community," the state Information and Publicity Department said in a statement here.

Multiple state and central government security agencies such as the Indian Navy, Goa Police, coastal security intelligence agencies, local port trust, Captain of Ports Departments, central industrial security force and Indian Customs are expected to participate in the drill coordinated by the Indian Coast Guard and the Goa Chief Secretary office, the statement said.
