Panjim, Oct 21: Dalgado Konkani Academy organized a Roman Konkani reading contest in 15 villages across Goa and received an overwhelming response. Two winners have been selected from each village and they will participate at the state level Konkani reading competition to be held on November 6 at DKA’s Reginald Fernandes Conference Hall at 4 pm.
Last Sunday in collaboration with Merces Kala Kendr, the DKA’s Roman Konkani reading contest was conducted at Our Lady of Merces church hall. The parish priest, Fr Remedious Furtado was the chief guest and the president of Merces Kala Kendr, Sebastiao das Merces was the guest of honour. Fr Furtado applauded the good work of DKA and prayed it may continue working for the posterity of the language.
The results of the contest are as follows:
First prize - Juella De Oliveiro; second prize - Chisanne Mendes; third prize - Lucia Fernandes.
Consolation prizes were awarded to Maria P S Fernandes and Nancy Monteiro.
The other participants included Roberto Marcelo, Caetano Fernandes, Jotham Rodrigues, Marisha Gonsalves, Vannia Gomes, Jochebeth Rodrigues, Olinda Rodrigues, Flavia Joao, Evaristo Fernandes, Aaliyah Silveira, Goretti Fernandes, Shalaina Vaz, Jolene Fernandes, Becca Rodrigues, Mitasha Fernandes, Britney De Souza, Lynn Rodrigues, Daizy D’Mello, Kenisha Joao, Aloysia Colaco, Pearl Marcelo, Kimberly Cardozo, Chriselle Mendes, Isidore Furtado, Avedis Sivveira, Fabio Fernades, Miselta Pires, Mafina Fernandes, Anisha A Costa, Roches Lawrence, Samuel Fernandes, Frank Pereira, Oshin De Souza, Alika Amaral, Sanroy D’Souza, Ancela Cardozo, Veloshka Fernandes, Zinovia Rosario, Shaun Joao, Conchita Mabel Vaz, Antonio Vaz, Felcy Martins, Myron Cabral.
On the same day, a similar contest was conducted at Our Lady of Mount Carmel church hall, Arambol. Parish priest, Fr Pio Almeida was the chief guest while Fr Cristo was the guest of honour. Fr Almeida said that Goans have to preserve Konkani and that is possible through reading and writing. He appreciated the work of DKA and encouraged the institution to conduct more programmes in the village.

First prize - Lizia Fernandes; second prize - Shiny Alfonso; third prize - Sneha Cardozo.
Delina Fernandes and Micchelle Rodrigues won consolation prizes.

On the occasion of the reading contests, DKA tried to create awareness on the Konkani weekly ‘Amcho Avaz’, the CD ‘Amcho Dobazo Amchim Gitam’ and invitation card booklet ‘Amcho Debaje ani Amchim Amontronnam’.
The president of DKA, Premanand A Lotlikar explained the deteriorating situation in Margao and explained the need to preserve the Konkani language. DKA secretary, Vincy Quadros explained the rules and regulations to be followed for the competition. Members of DKA, Pio Esteves, Vassalo Carvalho, Alfonso Braganza and writer Menino Almeida were present. The responsibility to conduct the reading contest was shouldered by Mathew D’Souza at Merces and Aleixinho Fernandes at Arambol.
