Sullia, Oct 20: A child accidentally fell into a pond at Kullampady in Aivarnadu near Bellare in the taluk on Tuesday October 18. The grandfather of the child, who tried his best to rescue the child, also lost his life.
Kullumpady Jattappa Gowda (55) and Janith, who happened to be the son of Jattappa's daughter, were the two who lost their lives in this accident.
On Tuesday, Jattappa Gowda was removing the weeds in his farm with the help of grass cutter when Janith, his four-and-half years old grandson, came there. The child accidentally fell into the pond, and Jattappa immediately jumped into the pond to rescue the child. But both drowned in the pond.
The family members, who were worried at the fact that Jattappa and the child had not come back home even after considerable time, searched for them. They found the grass cutter machine in running position and the spectacles of Jattappa Gowda near the pond. The fire brigade and policemen were informed about this development.
On searching in the pond, both the bodies were recovered. The bodies were shifted to the mortuary of KVG Hopspital in the town. After conducting postmortem on Wednesday, bodies were handed over to the family members on Wednesday.
Janith, it is learnt, was the son of Jattappa's daughter, Nirmala. Nirmala, who had married Venkappa Gowda from Ayyanakatte, had come to her parental home to stay with her parents for a few days.
