Mangaluru, Oct 19: At the threshold of the centenary celebration, the Centenary Committee of St Joseph’s Higher Primary School, Bajal, conducted various events to mark the celebration. The closing ceremony for the centenary celebration will be held on January 28, 2017.
In anticipation of the centenary, zonal-level flood light volleyball league for men, throwball for ladies and local level tug of war for both ladies and men was conducted on the school premises recently.
The tournaments were inaugurated by the president of Ullal Darga Mangalore, Hagi Rasheed Ullal and deputy director of the District Youth Welfare and Sports Department, Pradeep D'Souza.
Cultural convener, Harish Kumar, welcomed the guests. Maurice Dsouza proposed the vote of thanks. The publicity convener, Sunil Crasta, compered the programme
After the stage function, matches were held. Winners and runner were awarded a trophy and cash prize.
Amongst the winners were - Angel Warriors placing first in Volleyball, while Bajal Bulls stood second. Kavu Bail Bajal won the first prize in Throw Ball , and Param Jyothi came second. Janatha Vyayama received first place for tug of war in the men's category and Mallkikarjuna ranked second. In the women's category, for tug of war Janatha Vyayama won the first place and Holy spirit Bajal came second.
The correspondent and priest of Holy Sprit Church Bajal, Fr Cyril Pinto, presided over the function.
Amongst other guests on the dais were - entrepreneur Ivan D'Souza, vice president of South Block Congress Committee Walter Lobo, president of Centenary Committee Alwyn Dsouza, general secretary Maurice D'Souza, sports convener, Pavan Sulaya and the vice president of Holy Spirit Church Bajal.
