Karwar, Oct 17: Vilas Chandru Naik (62), a zilla panchayat member, hanged himself from a ceiling fan at his home at Ramanagara in Joida in Uttara Kannada district on Sunday October 16. He was one of the veteran politicians from Joida taluk. He had remained a trusted lieutenant of minister, R V Deshpande, since the last several decades.
In a letter left behind, he confessed that he decided to end his life, unable to bear the agony of prolonged stomachache. "I am solely responsible for my death. I seek apologies from minister, Deshpande, MLC, Ghotnekar, my close ones and party activists for taking this extreme step," he said in the letter.
Another paper which he had got written through a close one contains details of his finances. It is gathered that because of unbearable stomach and back aches he was suffering from since the last few days, he was neither able to have food properly, nor was he able to move around or take rest. He was alone at home when he chose to end his life late night on Saturday, it is gathered.
Policemen have registered a case. Investigation is on.
