Kundapur, Oct 15: "Social reformer, statesman, environmentalist, scholar and great spirit Maharshi Valmiki is renowned. As we value land of culture, Valmiki is relevant for us even in this 21st century," said Dr B B College lecturer Chetan Kumar Shetty.
He delivered a lecture at Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti programme held at Kundapur taluk panchayat bhavan on October 15. “Whether Valmiki belonged to a high or backward class is irrelevant now. His principles and contributions to society are immense. Birth anniversaries and celebrations nowadays seem to be confined to one community. The birth anniversaries of great achievers like Basavanna, Kanaka and Valmiki need to be celebrated in public,” he said.
Taluk panchayat member Pushparaj Shetty, Taluk panchayat executive official Chennappa Moily, Tahsildar Borker, social welfare department's assistant director Anusooya were present.
It appears BJP does not want Valmiki:
BJP speaks enough about Ramayana and Mahabharatha. However Kundapur taluk BJP has neglected the birth anniversary of Valmiki who has provided two noble scriptures. BJP member's absence in the programme raised a question on this.
