Dortmund (Germany), Sep 28 (IANS): The German media said on Wednesday that Borussia Dortmund's draw in their Champions League match against Real Madrid was "deserved" and argued that after the team's strong performance in the first half, the final result should have been in their favour.
The Group F match ended in a 2-2 draw here late on Tuesday with Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane scoring for Real Madrid while Pierre-Emerick Emiliano François Aubameyang and Andre Schürrle replied for the hosts.
"Great match against Ronaldo," read the front page headline of the Bild newspaper, reports Efe.
"Schürrle saves Borussia 2-2 with a great goal against Real Madrid," the photo caption read.
The newspaper said Dortmund deserved a better result considering its initial good performance.
"Dortmund salvages a deserved draw against Real Madrid," read the headline of the digital edition of Kicker magazine.
According to the magazine, Dortmund began well but was not consistent throughout the match, unlike Real Madrid who made good use of its opportunities and twice took the lead.
Der Westen newspaper rubbed it in with a headline saying: "Real Madrid continues without a win in Dortmund."
According to the newspaper, the first half of the match was reminiscent of the first leg of the 2013 semi-final, in which Dortmund saw off Real Madrid 4-1.
The only difference, it added, was that this time the German team's on-field superiority did not convert into goals.
