New Delhi, Sep 20 (IANS): India will be hosting the 6th meeting of BRICS member nations on Agriculture and Agrarian Development here from Thursday, an official statement said.
During the two-day meet, the crucial ministerial level meeting will be held on Friday 23 while the first day will see only interactions among officials, the statement said on Tuesday.
Among other issues, detailed discussions will also be held on the BRICS Agricultural Research Centre which is likely to be set up in India, and intended to be a forum for academicians, scholars, researchers and students for agricultural advancement in these countries.
The discussion will focus on priority areas of cooperation in the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) Action Plan for 2012-2016, an official statement said.
The areas of cooperation will include creating basic agricultural information exchange system, strategy for ensuring access to food for the most vulnerable population, reducing negative impact of climate change on food security and adaptation of agriculture to climatic changes.
The member nations would also work enhancing agricultural technology cooperation, trade and investment promotion, the statement said.
