Tokyo, Sep 20 (IANS): Tokyo stocks opened mixed on Tuesday as investors took a cautious stance early on ahead of potential new monetary policy from the Bank of Japan that might be announced on Wednesday.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 58.89 points, or 0.36 per cent, from Friday to 16,460.40, Xinhua news agency reported.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, edged up 0.84 point, or 0.06 per cent, to 1,312.34.
Notable early gainers comprised information and communication, and electric power and gas issues.
Mining, warehousing and harbor transportation service issues, however, led decliners.
Tokyo markets were closed on Monday for a national holiday.
