Tokyo, Sep 2 (IANS): Tokyo shares opened lower on Friday as the yen's depreciation halted ahead of a US jobs report for August due out later in the day.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average fell 29.49 points, or 0.17 per cent, from Thursday to 16,897.35, Xinhua news agency reported.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 0.52 points, or 0.04 percent, to 1, 336.86.
Decliners were led by mining, nonferrous metal, and iron and steel issues.
