Mass resignations from RSS in Goa over Velingkar's sacking

Panaji, Sep 1 (IANS) : In a late development on Wednesday, over 400 RSS volunteers, including district, sub district and shakha heads announced their resignation from the Hindu organisation, in protest against the unceremonious sacking of state RSS chief Subhash Velingkar earlier in the day.

The mass resignations following a marathon six-hour meeting held at a school complex near Panaji, in which over 100 local RSS members and office bearers accused Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and BJP top brass, including Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar of conspiring to sack Velingkar, one of the most influential RSS leaders in the state.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting which was also attended by the office bearers of the Sangh's Konkan region, Ramdas Saraf, south district pramukh of the RSS said: "All office bearers from the district units, sub district units and shakhas ing with hundreds of others have decided quit from the RSS, until Velingkar Sir is reinstated".

"We will not work for RSS until the decision to strip him as Goa Vibhag Sangh Chalak is revoked," Saraf said.

Velingkar, who also heads a regional language front Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM), has been critical of the state government's medium of instruction policy in primary schools, which he claims promotes English language over regional languages like Konkani and Marathi.

In the recent past, Velingkar had also accused successive BJP-led coalition governments in Goa under Manohar Parrikar and Laxmikant Parsekar of "cheating" people on the issue of medium of instruction.

On Monday, Velingkar had also warned, that the BJP may lose the upcoming assembly elections, because of this reason and had participated in a protest, which showed black flags to BJP President Amit Shah during his visit to the state on August 20.

As BBSM convenor, Velingkar has also threatened to mentor another political party, with the specific purpose to defeat the BJP in the upcoming elections, because of the latter's lack of support to regional languages.

Veteran state RSS leader Jayant Lele, who was also present at the meeting, said at the BJP should stop dictating terms to the RSS in Goa and that such attempts will not be tolerated.

"RSS is a parent body. Goa BJP cannot dictate terms to the RSS," even as RSS volunteers cried 'Shame, Shame' in the background.

At the meeting earlier, a large number of senior RSS members criticised the state BJP-led coalition government, as well as Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and former state organising secretary of the BJP Satish Dhond, for allegedly betraying the principles of the RSS on the altar of power.

I start my day enjoying the humor from our friendly BAKHTS, which shows their blind follow up on BJP. Many a times, resist not respond or ignore lack of knowledge and facts is clearly visible and demonstrated. For example,

Shankar Anna states “Government is run by BJP and not RSS”. He should know and ignores even if he aware of fact that BJP Government reports to RSS regularly on all party activities, programs, and issues to RSS for their input and direction. There was a three day meeting last week by Modi with RSS Chief, so who is reporting to whom is not a mystery.

Also, Shankar Anna should request Wikipedia to their brief on RSS which lists “RSS is widely regarded as the parent organization of the ruling party of India, the Bharatiya Janata Party” so that facts are properly listed and understood.

ANIKETH, MUMBAI states “RSS is existing in india for last 100 years. i dont think it was hindu organistaion” without providing any support why he thinks so.

Please note BBC reports regularly that The Hindu hardline RSS who see Modi as their own and uses words like militant Hindu organization for RSS in their website or news reporting. May be BBC is wrong and we should help them not to use such language if not true.

Sri, Karkala consistently using wrong name @lidiya shows lack of interest to refer properly our beloved commentator. After several repeats, it comes across as if Sri likes and enjoys using wrong name in his responses.

Around 35 years ago, even though being Catholic, I attended about six months RSS sponsored Sevak meetings in a temple area. My friends who led and participated helped for conducting exercises and prayers which made a lot of sense that time of my life.

Many of these friends who are at senior management positions still attend and practice without expressing one word of politics and respected for their attitudes and character. We have student’s reunion meeting and we remember good times in college days. It helped me and others to learn about many facts about their religion and practices.

I do not think such opportunity does not exist today due to polarization and hate towards other religions.

In last decade, things have changed for worst and very difficult to see the hate and communal divide people have created. It was hurting to hear one of my Mangalorean friend stated recently “We used to eat from same plate and today we cannot do that anymore based on regular emails and blogs that he reads and no longer thinks good about other religions.

If any nation is anticipating peace and prosperity, at first they will have to bury the hatred spirit using the religious card.

The RSS has created this problem very seriously all over India as if the unofficial police force of law and order, as well as creating religious terror.

Even in our village of 50/50 Hindu Christian population, we all loved and lived like a family but now the RSS penetration has shed a solid darkness upon the good old days of peace and harmony.

Through taking off English from India, the BJP/RSS/VHP/BD/KD like to create massive unemployment of the so called college graduates by the millions and use them as political prawns for their political business of aachi din.

In Maharastra, the number of applicants with college degrees and even PhD for the sweeper's job.
In China, now they teach English from the 1st standard, whereas the Indian BJP politicians are trying double hard to wipe off the English language. The popularity of the world language " English" is getting stronger every day, but a bunch of street politicians of India are deliberately trying to desert the masses without the English language.

As far as I know the BJP Govt. in Goa has given due importance to local languages. I have seen basic official documents such as birth, marriage and death certificates have their formats both in Konkani as well as in English just as we see in other states. Once these documents used be only in English. It’s not only Goa, all states in the country have retained English as one of the working languages. The Goa Govt. has not altogether abolished local language in Goa. In addition to Hindi, both Konkani and Marathi are also taught in Goan schools. So why this nautanki by RSS?
