Mumbai, Aug 20 (IANS): Former World No.1 shuttler Saina Nehwal on Saturday morning underwent right-knee surgery at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital (KDAH) here.
"After the surgery," Saina, 26, tweeted and posted a rosy, cheerful smiley, indicating her present condition, though she earlier said she was a little scared and could not sleep most of the previous night.
She even posted a picture of her bandaged right leg resting on the hospital bed for her fans and admirers.
After the surgery, Saina is likely to remain off the courts for at least four months.
A team of doctors led by Dinshaw Pardiwala performed the surgery for correcting the "right knee infrapatellar spur displaced fracture with patellar tendon impingement".
Earlier on Saturday, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj tweeted to Saina: "Every Indian prays for your speedy recovery." She responded: "Thank u so much Sushma ma'am."
