Doha, Aug 18: HBK Contracting Company, one of the leading construction companies in the state of Qatar, celebrated India’s 70th Independence Day at one of their projects in the city.
Flag hoisting was done at 7.00 am by the project director Niyaz Ahmed from Chikkamagaluru who is also the president of KMCA and a dynamic leader of the community.
Speaking on the occasion he emphasized that workers must ensure they have sanitation facilities back home and if not he advised them to make use of the Central Government’s Scheme of Swatch Baharat. He appealed to the workers to stay away from smoking, drinking and to save as much money for their future. He warned them to avoid illegal transfer of money and told them to transfer money only through legal channels. He also told the workers to give proper education to their children, so that they become good Indian citizens. He also requested them to be loyal to their employer who has given them shelter in Qatar and to work hard for its development.
He thanked the Indian Embassy officials for facilitating this celebration which is the first of its kind in Qatar.
This was followed by cake cutting which was done by workers from Hindu, Muslim, Sikh and Christian religious backgrounds to showcase unity in diversity in India. Snacks were distributed to all the workers.
The senior staff members of HBK Contracting Company also participated in the celebration.
While speaking with Daijiworld, few workers stated that due to their hours of duty and the distance, they did not participate in the Independence Day celebrations in Qatar for several years. As a result of this arrangement at the project site, they had a chance to salute the National Flag. They thanked the HBK management for this celebration.
Around 500 workers participated in the celebration.
