Will put our best foot forward at Rio: Sania

Rio de Janeiro, Aug 12 (IANS): Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza has said that she and her mixed doubles partner Rohan Bopanna will put their best foot forward to win a medal at the ongoing Rio Olympics.

Sania, along with her partner Bopanna, started their Olympics campaign on a positive note, defeating Sam Stosur and Jonathan Peers of Australia in straight sets 7-5, 6-4 on Thursday to book their place in the quarter-finals.

Sania and Bopanna will now take on the British combination of Andy Murray and Heather Watson on Friday for a place in the semi-finals.

"Personally for me, it would be amazing to win a medal at the Olympics, which I don't have. It would mean the world for us. We would do whatever we can and put our best forward," Sania said after the match.

Bopanna, who sealed the match in the 10th game with three big aces, heaped praise on Sania.

"You feel a lot better as she brings the best out of me. We put a lot of pressure while returning to their serves which made a big difference," Bopanna said.

"We were lucky to get a couple of breaks in the first set but unfortunately I could not hold serve at 5-4. We, however, managed to fight back and close it out with Sania serving."
