98 of 253 drug cases involve foreigners


Porvorim, Jul 27 (TOI): The number of foreign nationals involved in drug cases in Goa is quite high with a majority being Nigerian nationals. Of the total 253 drug cases reported in the state since 2012-13, 98 were foreign nationals.

This information was revealed by chief minister and home minister Laxmikant Parsekar during 'Question Hour' on day two of the monsoon session of the legislative assembly on Tuesday in a written reply to a question tabled by Bicholim MLA Naresh Sawal.

Persons of other nations such as South Africa, UK, US, Russia, Japan, Sudan, Israel, Ghana and Nepal were also arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The number of Goans linked to drug cases was 54 and non-Goans was 101.
