Mumbai, Jul 21 (TOI): Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis tore into senior Congress leader Narayan Rane over his allegations against the Maharashtra government and the BJP.
Rane on Tuesday in a debate over the rape and murder of a minor in Ahmednagar had said that the BJP was a party of goons and that Fadnavis was incapable of handling the home department.
In his rejoinder to Rane, Fadnavis said, "If I start counting the number of cases against Rane in Sindhudurg, it will show everyone who is a party of criminals."
"I agree with you that I don't know how the home department works, you know it better than me. You have seen it from inside as well as outside and from top to bottom," he added.
Armed with details of cases against the former chief minister, Fadnavis said, "Those who stay in glass houses shouldn't throw stones at others."
In a veiled threat, Fadnavis said that the government knows everything about everyone and they should not speak without proof. "The opposition has adopted a new strategy that of shoot and scoot," he said. Senior members termed Wednesday's speech as one of Fadnavis's most aggressive since he become the chief minister, many senior MLAs had also come to the visitors' gallery of the Upper house to hear the reply. One of them was former revenue minister Eknath Khadse.
Rane had alleged that the state is run by three CMs, Fadnavis and his two secretaries.
BJP MLCs Pravin Darekar, Sujitsingh Thakur and Bhai Girkar moved a breach of privilege motion against Rane over the allegations made against the BJP and the chief minister. The motion will be sent to the chairman and a subcommitee will scrutinize it.
