Noel Clinton and Kunjuraj Top 'Voice of Goa' Honours

Margao, Nov 19:  Amidst loud applause and appreciation, Noel Clinton Aiyer was chosen the Kingfisher Voice of Goa 2007 for English round and Kunjuraj Singh was chosen voice of Goa 2007 for Regional language round.

After two long suspense-filled months, the climax unfolded here in the Kingfisher Voice of Goa event, held at Goa Karting Track, Nuvem, 7 km from here. The three-day event culminated on Sunday with a grand finale.

Kunjuraj Singh's is an interesting story. He is a native of Manipur, who came in Goa in search of a job six years ago. He moved everywhere looking around for a  job and worked wherever he got a chance to earn a livelihood. Then he joined an orchestra, and now is a full-time singe.

"I love music. My dream is Bollywood. I want to become a playback singer. I learnt so many lessons of music in Goa, which I will never forget. I want to move to Mumbai to achieve my life's motto," said a beaming Singh.

Noel (25), having his own restaurant cum lodging, runs his music band too. He is engaged in music over the past twelve years. He was so happy to receive the title of Voice of Goa (English round).

Speaking to Daijiworld, he said that he would go further and further in music field.

UB group-Kingfisher is engaged in the hunt for best voice talent of Goa, for which they organize the event every year.

The following had been shortlisted for the English round: Lee Ann Dias, Delwyn Gomes and Danny Fernandes, Chime, Clifton Fernandes Sharon Fernandes, Noel Clinton Aiyer, Maria Cabral, Savio Pereira, Jerson D’Cruz, Glen Dias and Sydelle D’Souza.

In the Indian languages round the finalists were P S Roy, Ulfa Khawja, Kavita Hullalada, Vivek Vaid, Mukesh Garder, Anup Bannati, Karim A Mullah, Kunjuraj Singh, Ramesh Naik, Sushil Kumar Dwivedi, Anirudy Iyer, Kamal Paigi, Sudesh Shirodkar, Vikas Gaokar and Mayur Mayenkar

‘Crimson Tide’ and ‘Band Wagon’, Symphony’ and 'Springbok’ kept the feet of the music-lovers tapping, when they kept the audience entertained all through the past three days.

African Tribal Arts' special light show drew a loud applause from audience on Sunday night.

The night had added entertainment of performances by Suhail Kaul (of ‘Life in a Metro’ movie fame) and internationally acclaimed Hard Kaur. This duo and Goan artiste Teri and Keni Dias judged the show.  Sachin compered the event.

Joel Fernandes, winner of voice of Goa 2006, also performed several number and rocked the show.

Hard Kaul said that she had done several shows across the India, but nowhere did she see music talent like in Goa. Goa is not only rich with tourism, but its really rich with music too, she added.

No doubt Goans have superb talent of Music. Its heritage is marked by rich music, but not many Goans venture out of the state to perform. This should overcome this problem and mindset and should give their best to rest of the world. Goan music should reach everywhere, it was opined.

Chief minister Digamber Kamat was present as chief guest of the event, besides his wife his Asha Kamat, power minister Alexio Sequeira and UB group officials.

Kamat presented a cheque of Rs 50,000 each to the winner duo.
