Margao, Nov 15: At least 27 passengers including two bus drivers were injured in a major accident that took place on the National highway at Pisorne-Barshem Cuncolim, as two buses collided.
According to Cuncolim police, accident took place Thursday morning, when the bus bearing number GA 02 T 4961, named Nilam, was proceeding from Margao on its way to Karwar and Sea Bird Volvo bus bearing reg no KA 01 B 8422, Margao-bound bus from Karwar, collided at Barshem.
"It was a horrible accident. When the collision took place, the jolt was too horrible," said one of the passengers to this correspondent.
Rajesh Shankar and Shekh Mohalla, the drivers of the buses, were trapped inside the respective cabin. The police with the help of locals and fire brigade personnel extricated them. Both of them were admitted to Hospicio hospital at Margao and other passengers were discharged after being given first aid at the health centre here. Both drivers are recuperating in the hospital.
Following the accident, traffic was blocked for long three hours. The police and fire brigades, with the help of a crane, lifted the buses and moved them off the middle of the road, thus clearing the traffic.
