Panaji, Jul 4 (HT): The complainant in a bribery case filed against Goa chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar’s brother-in-law has alleged that the state-run Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) was harassing him.

Sanjay Jalandhara, a Rajasthan-based industrialist, had last year filed a complaint with the ACB against Parsekar’s brother-in-law Dilip Malavankar, an officer at GIDC, for demanding bribe for a plot of land.

In a letter sent to the Prime Minister’s office this week, he has said that GIDC has now stalled the hand-over of the plot allotted to him in Tuem Industrial Estate.

GIDC neither gave him back the money paid, nor did it further communicate with him, he said.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested Malavankar last August while accepting a bribe of Rs one lakh for allotment of plot to Jalandhara. Recently, Malavankar was reinstated in the service which sparked a controversy.

“I had to complain to the ACB (against Malavankar) against my will as GIDC was refusing to release the plot under some pretext or other. They wanted me to bribe them. One of our former employees has bribed GIDC to the tune of Rs 5 lakh,” says the letter addressed to PMO.

GIDC chairman Ganesh Gaonkar denied that it was harassing Jalandhara.

“The formalities, at times, take long. We are not doing any injustice to anyone, nor are we interested in harassing people,” he said, adding that he was yet to check the details of this particular case.
