Tokyo, Jun 28 (IANS): Tokyo stocks opened lower on Tuesday as global market volatility following Britain opting to leave the European Union continued to batter sentiment, with a strong yen sending exporters lower.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 188.22 points, or 1.23 per cent, from Monday to 15,120.99, Xinhua news agency reported.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 17.23 points, or 1.41 per cent, to 1,208.53.
The majority of industry categories on the main section retreated into negative territory, with rubber products, insurance and securities issues leading early notable decliners.
