Mumbai, Nov 5: Olympian Adrian D’Souza, a member of India's hockey team, which won the Asia Cup 2007 hockey title, inaugurated the 21st Bipin Memorial Football Association (BMFA) free vacation coaching camp at Karnataka sports association ground on Sunday November 4.
A football striker turned hockey goalkeeper, the 23-year-old had trained from 1995-99 at the BMFA's Malad Centre.
"I played football and so was able to perform as hockey goalie when my school sports chief, Fr Lawrence asked me to do the pads in a school U-10 game," said Adrian.
Boys and girls from six centers (Churchgate, Andheri, Borivili, Naigaon, Vasai and Kalyan along with coaches attended the inauguration.
Double Olympian S S Narayan and Ajit Suvarna were also present for the inauguration.
The 21-day U-16 camp will be followed by an inter-centre tournament in December. This time the Churchgate centre will host for the first time camp for slum kids from Reay Road, Colaba and Cuffe Parade who will be provided with canvas shoe by Karnataka Sporting Football Secretary Prakash Shetty.
