Mumbai, Nov 5: Poverty brought him to a mega city called ‘Amchi Mumbai’ at a very tender age. But his talent, dedication and hard work made him one of the top-most Konkani singers of the city. Rags to musical riches story, indeed. Well, to start at the beginning, 32-year-old Anthony Tauro began his journey to Mumbai, from Arur a small village in Koppa taluk, of Karnataka when he was barely 14-year-old. In Mumbai however, he did not even have a shelter to stay. He somehow managed to find employment in a hotel, which was just enough to earn his daily bread. But being a determined young man he even continued his education by studying in night schools, along with his hotel job. From there begin his successful journey into the virtual Konkani musical arena.
Antony Tauro
Today, Antony's towering achievement in the Konkani music sphere is indeed a model worth replicating and emulating for any ordinary guy in a far-flung remote village. He is indeed a role model for any villager, with dreams in his eyes and aspiring to achieve anything big in life. It is an undeniable fact that he had god-given musical talent in his blood. But finding the right opening and then channeling this talent in the right direction at that point in time, was indeed one of the greatest challenges faced by him. This he did admiringly well, thereby reaching the well-deserved stature he is enjoying today.
Although he was just a village guy and a mere high school student, he still had several valuable opportunities to compete in singing competitions held by various organizations like Veera Kesari Kalavrunda, Billava Association, Goreganv and Karnataka Sangha, which greatly honed his musical talents. He managed to beat the best there and won several top prizes for consecutive three years in a row. This was indeed the beginning of the climbing the ladder of success in his chequered musical singing career.
