Panaji, Jun 8 (TOI): The BJP on Tuesday said that most Goans do not want Nigerian nationals in the state as they are allegedly involved in anti-social activities.
Asked whether BJP wants to ban entry of Nigerians in the state, BJP spokesperson and Tivim MLA Kiran Kandolkar said, "Nobody wants Nigerians in Goa. People of Goa don't want them because of their rough attitude and bad behavior."
On Congress leader Ravi Naik's demand to have Nigerians thrown out of the country, Kandolkar asked why Naik did not act when he was the chief minister and home minister of the state. "When you are in a position, anyone can make demands, but when a party is ruling it has to think of all sections of society," he added.
He further said, "We cannot make a direct statement that Nigerians should be thrown out of the state even if we know that they are involved in illegal activities," he said adding that on some ocassions Nigerians stay back in Goa by committing some minor offences. "We will treat Nigerians as per the policy of the Union government," he added.
Reacting to the statement of Congress state president Luizinho Faleiro that they will not allow implementation of the universal medical scheme in the state, Kandolkar said that Faleiro should tell his own MLAs not to participate in the scheme.
He said that with the kind of response the BJP has been getting because of the number of social security schemes being run by the state government, the party is confident of winning 26 seats in the upcoming assembly elections with its alliance partner.
On the eco-tourism project at Chapora, Kandolkar said he would be with the people and added that he was not aware of the project.
BJP also said that they will contest all 40 assembly seats if there is no alliance with the Maharastrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP). Speaking on the medium of instruction (MoI) issue, Kandolkar said that senior BJP leaders will talk to RSS state chief Subhash Velingkar to end the logjam between the BJP and the RSS.
