Prosecution, defence on same side in Gujarat riot trial: Digvijaya

Panaji, Jun 4 (IANS): Evidence could not be found against senior BJP leaders because the prosecution and the defence were "both on the same side" in the 2002 Gujarat riot trials, Congress General Secretary Digvijaya Singh said on Friday.

Reacting to the judgment in the Gulberg Society massacre case, the All India Congress Committee general secretary said: "In the cases relating to the 2002 riots, we had a situation where prosecution and defence were on the same side. It is a fact that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and the courts have held that it was the handiwork of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Bajrang Dal activists. But evidences were not found evidence against senior BJP leaders".
