Doha, May 31: In division II of the first Mohammed Shamlan Memorial cricket tournament 2016 sponsored by Qatar Lubricants Co, QVC got the better of Al Shaqab Real Estate defeating them by 6 wickets. The tournament which was played at MIC Sports Complex, Umm Mesaieed consisted of the top 8 teams of Division II competing with each other on a knockout basis.
The tournament was dedicated to the late Mohammed Shamlan in memory of his immense contribution to the development of local cricket in Qatar.
Fawad Rana, managing director of Qatar Lubricants Co (QALCO) could not make it to witness the thrilling finals due to other commitments. Shahid Iqbal Chaudhary, operation director of QALCO was the chief guest and Sudhir Pangal administrative manager was the guest of honour along with Salim Qazi.
Al Shaqab Real Estate won the toss and elected to bat first. However good bowling and fielding saw Al Shaqab Real Estate all out for 58 runs in 13 overs. No one could reach a double figure.
Mumtaz scored 9 runs with a six, Atiq and Yousef added 8 runs each.
Sanjay took 3 wickets, Indika 2 wickets, Rifas, Qazi, Jameel, Shaman and Milhan took a wicket each.
In reply, QVC confidently chased the target of 59 with 33 for no loss in the first 6 overs. Thereafter good bowling by Al Shaqab Real Estate saw QVC lose 5 wickets in the next 9 overs. Milhan was the top scorer with 14 runs consisting of 3 boundaries and Rifas with 11 runs consisting of a six. QVC scored 62 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 11.1 overs.
Amjad Mirza achieved a hatrick and Imran took 2 wickets from Al Shaqab Real Estate.

At the well attended prize distribution ceremony, prizes were given away by chief guest Shahid Iqbal Chaudhary and guest of Honour Sudhir Pangal.
The organizers arranged complimentary refreshments, tea and a lucky draw for all the spectators.
