Panjim, May 22: AAP Goa convener Valmiki Naik said every Goan is invited for the rally and that their volunteers have reached out to almost two lakh families in the State. The party expects over 10,000 people attend the rally as Kejriwal outlines his vision for Goa.
“When Kejriwal arrives in Goa he will be given a traditional welcome by tribal women at the airport,” Rupesh Shinkre, AAP Goa media coordinator told the media. The Delhi Chief Minister will be welcomed by the playing of the traditional ‘ghumat’ on the highway at Nuvem where people from Nuvem and Verna will perform a Kunbi dance, he said. Kunbis are considered the original inhabitants of Goa.
On the road to Panjim, nine kilometres from the city, Kejriwal will be greeted by fishermen who will also petition him regarding their problems, Shinkre said.
The party has been gearing up over the past two years in the State, and in the last six months has campaigned extensively reaching out to all communities and stakeholders. Party’s national secretary Pankaj Gupta said they have received tremendous support for it. It has announced its plans to contest all 40 constituencies and political observers believe that Sunday’s turnout could decide the next political revolution in Goa.
Other parties, including BJP and Congress, are awaiting the response to the rally as the party is gaining momentum in the State. Both national parties have been criticising Kejriwal and AAP has appealed to the people not to fall for the criticism.
On Monday, Kejriwal will pay homage to three icons of Goa's history – freedom fighter Dr T B Cunha, Goa’s first chief minister Dayanand Bandodkar and the first opposition leader Dr Jack de Sequeira.
Before leaving for Delhi, Kejriwal will hold a closed-door meeting with the AAP organisation and volunteers in Panjim.
