Man stabbed, bike damaged at Uppala in election-related violence

Kasargod, May 22: Group clashes occurred at Uppala within the limits of Manjeshwar police station in the district, with a murder attempt of a youth having been reported from there on Saturday evening.

After the incident, two gangs gathered opposite one another. Sensing trouble, police resorted to lathi charge thrice and dispersed the trouble mongers. A motor bike belonging to the gang which had stabbed a youth was destroyed in the incident.

Abdul Muneer (24), son of Abdulla from Pachchilampare Colony in Uppala was stabbed reportedly by BJP activist, Shajesh, when the former was moving in a motor bike towards his home from Chirugoli. Seriously injured Muneer was admitted into the intensive care unit of a private hospital at Mangaluru.

Angry over the incident, a gang reached Uppala and thoroughly damaged the motor bike belonging to Shajesh. Thereafter, situation turned tense, forcing the police to cane the crowd in an effort to defuse the situation.

Shops and establishments at Uppala downed their shutters after this incident. Police have been keeping a close vigil to see that trouble does not give rise to major consequences.
