Sea Harriers de-inducted, MiG29K inducted in Indian Navy

Panaji, May 11 (IANS): The Indian Navy de-inducted it's iconic fighter plane, the Sea Harrier FRS, and inducted the new MiG29K fighter planes at a formal ceremony at its naval station in Goa on Wednesday.

The British-manufactured Sea Harriet's FRS, which have been the mainstay of the Indian Navy, since their induction in 1983 and were stationed onboard the INS Vikrant, will now be replaced by the Russian MiG 29Ks, which are all-weather carrier-based multirole fighter aircraft.

The MiG 29Ks will now be part of the Indian Navy's INAS 300 squadron, which have in the past been equipped with Seahawks and subsequently the Sea Harriers FRS.

Among those present at the ceremony at Goa's INS Hansa base were Admiral R.K.Dhovan and retired Admiral Arun Prakash.
