Dubai, Oct 23: The UAE Amchigele Samaj celebrated Durgashtami during Navaratri. They had organized a Durga Puja at the Karama Centre Hall in Karama here on Friday October 19.

As the Puja was being performed a group of ladies simultaneously chanted the Vishnu Sahastranam and Lalita Sahastranam which brought about an aura of divinity in the atmosphere.

The Puja was followed by a spellbinding recital of light classical and devotional songs by Mahalaksmi Shenoy, a noted singer of Hindustani classical vocal music. She was accompanied by DrVinod Deulkar on tabla and Vishwanath Andar on harmonium.

She sang songs in Marathi, Kannada and Konkani and enthralled the audience. Songs like “Nammama Sharade Uma Maheshwari” in Kannada, “Yore Porra Aamgele Ghara” in Konkani and “Sundera Te Dhyan Oobhe Vithewari” in Marathi were sung by her. The recital ended with a superb rendition of “Bhaagyadaa Laxmi Baramma” in Raag Bhairavi which left the audience spell bound.

Maha Aarti was then performed. Ramchandra Hegde, Subash Shanbhogue and other committee members felicitated the musical troupe.

The celebrations were compered and coordinated by Shailesh Shenoy, Mahesh Prabhu, Anil Kamath and Anand Shanbag with the support of all other committee members.

Nearly 350 people attended the programme.

Would like to Thank all the committee memebsr & volunteers who have worked for making this programme a grand success. The Pooja was done in such a traditional manner that I never felt that we are in UAE, away from India.
