Udupi, Oct 18: Thieves who broke open into a nurse's house near Chittaranjan circle here on Tuesday October 16 night have decamped with ornaments worth Rs 1.5 lac.
Theft took place in one Uma Maheshwari's house when she was on night duty. Uma is a nurse in a maternity hospital in the city and on Tuesday night she was on duty. The theft came to light only on Wednesday October 17 morning when Uma returned home from duty.
Uma’s husband has been working abroad while their daughter lives with her husband in Mangalore.
The thieves had initially tried to enter the house by breaking open the window. But they failed in their attempt. So they entered the house after removing tiles from the roof of the house.
Thieves have decamped with jewellery worth Rs 1.5 lac that was kept in the almirah. Since the almirah was not locked, their task became quite easy. The police have found a sickle behind the house.
Fingerprint experts and sniffer dogs were summoned to the place. However, police have not yet been able to get any details about the thieves.
