Committed to fulfil ‘Golden Goa’ dream: Parrikar


Vasco, May 1: Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, on Saturday, said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is moving ahead with its   ‘Golden Goa’ dream  and added that he is committed to fulfil the dream.

The Defence Minister was addressing a gathering in Vasco  after laying a cornerstone for six major development projects  proposed by Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida including ultra modern transport hub, administrative building, ring road behind KTC bus stand to Goa Shipyard Ltd, retaining wall at Bhouter Vollant, footpath and a drain from St Andrew’s Church Square to New Vaddem junction and installation of booster pump for augmentation of water supply to the Vasco constituency, all estimated to  cost  around Rs 105 crore.

Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza, Power Minister Milind Naik, PWD Minister Ramakrishna Dhavalikar, Panchayat Minister Rajendra Arlekar, South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar, Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida, Cuncolim MLA Rajan Naik, Velim MLA Benjamin Silva, chairman of Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry Narayan Bandekar, chairman and managing director of GSL Rear Admiral (retired) Shekhar Mital, Mormugao Municipal Council chairperson Deepak Naik, deputy chairperson Shashikant Parab, councillor Nandadeep Raut besides others were present on the occasion.

Speaking further, the Defence Minister said that during the last four years, the BJP-led government in the state has fulfilled most of the promises which were made during the last assembly election. He said that the state government has completed projects worth Rs 6,000 crore.

“The Centre would provide Rs 5,000-6,000 crore fund to the state to achieve the ‘Golden Goa’dream,  he said adding that “despite the financial crisis, which was due to the closure of the mining industry, the welfare schemes like Griha Adhar and Dayanand Samajik Suraksha Yojna were successfully handled by the state government.”

He said that Rs 32,000-crore contract of building mine counter measures vessels (MCMVs) has been awarded by the Defence Ministry to Goa Shipyard Ltd, adding the shipyard would help Vasco in completing its development projects under the corporate social responsibility.

He recommended to the GSL to fund a swimming pool project  proposed by the Vasco MLA.

The Chief Minister, while speaking on the occasion, said that the state government has completed over 50 per cent of the development works within a short span.

“Despite various hurdles which were due to the financial crisis, the state government made sincere efforts in fulfilling the wishes of the people,” he said adding “The all-round development of the state was possible only because of the stable governance.”

Speaking further, he said that the BJP will sweep the Mormugao taluka, winning all the four seats, during the forthcoming assembly election.

“The presence of BJP in Mormugao taluka will be 100 per cent after the 2017 assembly election, which was 75 per cent after the assembly election held in 2012,  with victory in Mormugao, Vasco and Cortalim,” said Parsekar adding  Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho who is supporting the BJP government, would help change the political scenario during the forthcoming assembly election.

He expressed hope that “Kadamba Transport Corporation Ltd would stand on its own feet after the commissioning of the ultra modern transport hub in Vasco.”

Deputy Chief Minister said that the BJP means development, and added that the government has completed many projects within a stipulated timeframe.

“The completion of projects in scheduled time is an essence of good work,” said D’Souza and further appealed to the people to give one more term to the BJP-led government to complete the remaining projects.

Speaking on the occasion, the PWD Minister stressed on augmentation of water supply in the state.

He said that the 100 MLD JICA project, which would benefit the entire South Goa, will be commissioned by the end of this year.

He said that the PWD has completed several works, worth Rs 100 crore in Mormugao and Vasco constituencies during the last four years.

“Rs 40 crore C-Tech sewage treatment plant at Baina, that would benefit Mormugao, Vasco and Dabolim constituencies will shortly be commissioned,” he added.

The Vasco MLA expressed gratitude to the Defence Minister and the Chief Minister for their all out efforts and help to have  ultra modern transport hub and administrative building in Vasco.
