Mangalore, Oct 18: A one day CME programme on blood safety will be organized by the department of aediatrics and medicine in association with the blood bank of Father Muller Medical College on Sunday October 21 at the Conference hall, III floor, Asha Kiran block, Father Muller Medical Hospital, a press release from the hospital stated.
The inauguration will be held at the above-mentioned venue at 9 am. Dr Rajashekar Warrier, vice-chancellor, Manipal University will be the chief guest and Dr H T Balakrishna, deputy director, Karnataka State Blood Transfusion Council will be the guest of honour. Fr Patrick Rodrigues, director, FMCI will preside over the function, added the press release.
Following papers will be presented by doctors during the programme:
- On cord blood banking and stem cell transfusion by Dr Rajashekar Warrier, VC, Manipal University
- Blood transfusion in hemolytic anemia by Dr U V Shenoy, prof of paediatrics at KMC, Mangalore
- Blood transfusion in critically ill patients by Dr. Damodar Shenoy, Associate prof. of Medicine, KMC, Mangalore
- Rational use of blood and blood components: Transfusion guidelines for hospitals by Dr Shivaram, Manipal Hospital Bangalore.
- National blood policy and blood safety programme in Karnataka by Dr. H T Balakrishna, deputy director, Karnataka State Blood Transfusion Council.
- Transfusion reactions by Dr Srikantu J by Dr. Srikantu J, Associate prof. of Anaesthesiology, F.M.M.C, Mangalore.
There would be panel discussion between 2 pm and 3 pm on the topic ‘Transfusion triggers in day to day practice’ and case discussion between 3.30 pm and 4.00 pm as supplementary to above-referred papers and all these sessions will be followed by quiz that would be held at 4 pm, the press release briefed.
