Mangalore Oct 17: World Anaesthesia Day was organized by the department of Anaesthesiology at Fr Muller Medical College here on Tuesday October 16.
Speaking on the occasion FMCI director Fr Patrick Rodrigues that anaesthesia importance in pain management is incomparable. Anaesthetists are in a better position to manage things in a critical situation. It is the plan of action between the surgeon and the anaesthetist that relieves the patient during a surgery, he informed.
Tracing the origins of anaesthesia, Fr Rodriques said that it was conceived in the 18 century when there were a number of researches done to reduce pain. However, it was discovered in the 19 century and from then onwards has developed as a unique branch of medicine that uses a variety of drugs, techniques and equipment.
Dr Subramaniam, cardiac anaesthetist of the college also speaking on the occasion talked about the scope of modern anaesthesia. According to him 200 per cent of growth in anaesthesia work force took place in the last 30 years. He declared that anaesthesiology is the speciality of future and dinosaur of the past.
An inter-collegiate PG quiz competition was conducted later. Associate professor at KSHEMA Dr Sumalatha Shetty was the quiz master.
