Mangalore, Oct 17: The Bunder police team headed by inspector Vinay Gaonkar has been successful in cracking another major case. They arrested two persons in connection with furtively circulating counterfeit currency on Tuesday October 16 evening.
The arrested have been identified as Rafiq Ul-Hasan (40) and Jiya Ul-Haq (21) hailing from West Bengal. The police have seized 22 counterfeit notes of Rs 1000 face value and 43 notes of Rs 500 each from them.
On Tuesday October 16 police received information that some Hindi-speaking persons were engaged in the task of circulating counterfeit notes at K S Rao road. Immediately they swung into action to catch the offenders. Later they were arrested near Kulyadikars cloth shop at around 4 pm.
The arrested duo later on interrogation confessed that some persons from West Bengal had handed-over these counterfeit notes to them for circulation. They were getting 30% commission for this illegal business. The seized Rs 1000 notes are of 7AB and 7CN serial number and Rs 500 notes are of 9AW, 8DP and 8DB serial numbers.
The arrested duo will be produced in the court on Wednesday October 17 evening, police sources informed.
Bunder station sub-inspector C Kiran, head constable Narayan Byndoor, constables Shashikant, Umesh Hosolike, Mohan, Chetan, Damodar, Balakrishna Kunjattadi, Abdul Salim and Rajesh Hegde participated in this successful operation.
