MOEF proposes to allow beach shacks to stay during monsoon


Panaji, Apr 28 (TOI): Shack owners will no longer have to dismantle their shacks at the end of the tourist season, as per a ministry of environment and forests (MoEF) proposal. The condition imposed by the ministry being that they conduct no business from the premises during the monsoon period.

Coastal Zone Regulation Notification, 2011, requires that shacks be dismantled at the end of May, with no structures allowed on the beach till August.

Now, in a draft amendment to the Coastal Zone Regulation Notification, 2011, which will bring cheer to scores of shack owners, MoEF proposes to facilitate beach shack allottees to maintain their structures for the period between June and August.
