FIR against eco-project rocks Cortalim meet

Panaji, Apr 25 (TOI): The issue of pursuing the filing of a first information report (FIR) against a hotelier for illegal reclamation of khazan land on the banks of the River Zuari in Quelossim for an eco-project surfaced again at the Cortalim gram sabha on Sunday.

The meeting was chaired by sarpanch Hilario Figuereido and a few issues related to garbage management, a new road in ward no 2 and bifurcation of the panchayat into two were discussed.

The illegal reclamation along the river had been discussed in previous gram sabhas, but members were told that an FIR filed earlier had not been registered yet.

Members suggested that the panchayat file a complaint with the director general of police (DGP), stating that the police were not registering the FIR even though many months had passed. A resolution was passed in this regard.

The members also questioned the sarpanch as to why wet garbage was not being collected. The sarpanch replied that the panchayat would shortly get a site for the purpose and wet waste would be collected.

Lupino Xavier, a member, raised a query about a road in the sarpanch's ward, and sought documents related to its construction. The sarpanch and members suggested that he check the papers during office hours. The sarpanch first said the road existed earlier but later said it was a new road.

MLA Alina Saldanha wrote to the panchayat seeking an appointment with the panchayat minister to take up the issue of bifurcation next month.
