Mangalore, Oct 13: The local Bhagini Samaj Hall recently played host to a seminar on human trafficking and child labour which was inaugurated by Bhagini Samaj president Anandi S Rao the seminar.
After the inauguration ceremony speaking on the occasion, Rao called upon the citizens to be aware of ill-treatment meted out to women and children by the society. In this context she urged people to introspect within themselves as to how they treat women and children and realise the magnitude of ill-treatment.
Rennie D’Souza, the district Child Welfare Committee president declared that children who are undergoing harrassment from their employers is gruesome and hence urged people to act against it.He rued the fact that children were trafficked like cattle and then employed as domestic labourers.
Also present on the occasion were Rural Development officer, Belgaum, Geo D’Silva, Samaj vice-president Vajra N Rao, members Vijayalaxmi Shetty, Shanthi N Pai and Vijayalaxmi Bhat.
