Mangalore, Oct 11: A two-day seminar on rural e-empowerment was inaugurated by K L Gopalkrishna, ED, Corporation Bank in Hotel Gold Finch here on Thursday October 11.
S G Siddesh, principal, RTC, NABARD welcomed the gathering while Ananthakrishna, chairman, Karnataka Bank delivered the keynote address. Jiji Mammen, seminar director proposed the vote of thanks for inaugural session.
The first session began with the talk on technology interventions for pilot testing by banks. Dr SS Satchidananda was the resource person for this session.
The second talk of the first session was appropriate technology for rural areas – Use of mobile/ biometric ATMs; smart cards, etc. Tarun Agarwal, financial informations and network operations (FINO), Mumbai spoke on this topic.
The other talk to be held in first session was e-based farming model which was delivered by Dr P K Krishna Reddy, associate professor, IIT, Hyderabad.
The session two will be on IT and micro finance, which will be held in the afternoon. In this session, a talk on IT and micro finance will be held. Ramya Bharat, Rural Technology Business Incubator, IIT, Chennai will be the resource person. Vijay Pratap Aditya, CEO, Ekgaon Technologies, New Delhi will speak on holistic solutions for up-keeping of groups accounts. The third talk for second session will be on application of IT to monitor group dynamics where Reji Varghese, BASIX, Hyderabad will be the resource person.
In third session will be on IT for empowerment of farmers, which will be at 3.45 pm. A talk on e-choupal for inclusive development will be held in this session. Shailesh Naik, head, Financial Services, ITC, Hyderabad will be the resource person.
The second talk for this session will be on price discovery through commodity futures. M S Annigeri, NCDEX, Mumbai will speak on this topic.
