Margao, Oct 11: Those who try to enter Goa from Karwar-Karnataka highway on Tuesday October 16 will have to face road block by the people of Canacona. The road block has been called to draw government's attention over pending issues of Canacona village. Locals have also decided to boycott Lok Sabha by-polls to mark their protest.
National Highway passing from Canacona taluka, is in dilapidated condition as so many potholes are formed on same. In this regard irate people had met the chief minister Digamber Kamat and had submitted an appeal to him. Following this Kamat had ordered fast hot-mixing of the road, one month ago. But till date the road work has not been undertaken.
People have also demanded the government to better facilities at the health centre of Canacona, construct small bridges in the area and providing drinking water, street lights etc.
Canacona has more than 30,000 voters. They have now decided not to take part in forthcoming Loksabha by-poll and have decided to refrain themselves from voting. This could be major setback to political parties in the state.
While some of the parties are trying to all ways to get best results in by- poll, prudent people have decided to teach a lesson or two to the politicians. It is very clear that politicians just give assurances at the time of election and then they forget once get elected. This has made Canconkars to take to the streets.
