Mumbai, Apr 3: Jagruti Kendra, an NGO of St Jude’s Church, Jerimeri celebrated ‘Senior Citizen Day’ on the occasion of platinum jubilee of ‘Helpers of Mary’ Congregation on March 31 at St Jude’s Quadrangle hall from 4 pm to 6 pm.
Sr Seema, the founder of JK welcomed the gathering.
Chief guest Fr Lancy lit the traditional lamp along with other senior citizens and congratulated sisters of Helpers of Mary with roses for their platinum jubilee. He also congratulated JK for taking initiatives to become friendly with senior citizens.
“Senior citizens are the jewels and pearls of the nation. We should always think about the senior citizens who made a difference in our lives. They are our mentors, teachers, parents, grandparents and loved ones. Also they are volunteers and role models.”
“We should always respect them for their valuable contributions in our families, work places and communities. Let’s show our appreciation for everything they did for society,” he said.
Anitha Kakde from Family Welfare Agency explained some benefits/grants on the occasion.
Flora D’Souza requested all the seniors, irrespective of their age to continue their work for the betterment of society.
Sr Seema proposed JK’s plan for senior citizens and asked them to come daily and play games like carom board and chess. She also welcomed them to join in laughing club. She also gave a demo of laughing club.
Rani Fernando and Merceline D’souza expressed their happiness and thanked JK for organizing such event for seniors. Jacintha D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks.
Augustine Kuttikat conducted some funny games and entertained the gathering.
Helpage India distributed the snacks on the occasion. JK distributed an eco friendly bag with bath towel & biscuits.
Women’s Group of Sunder Baug entertained them with street play.
Nearly 200 senior citizens from Jerimeri participated in this programme.
