Munich, April 3 (IANS): Franck Ribery's volley goal lifted leaders Bayern Munich 1-0 past Eintracht Frankfurt while Borussia Dortmund reaped a late 3-2 victory over Werder Bremen thanks to Adrian Ramos at the 28th round of the Bundesliga football league.
Front-runners Bayern secured their five-point advantage, as Ribery's winner against Frankfurt was enough to clinch the 23rd win of the season here on Saturday, reports Xinhua news agency.
The Bavarians controlled the proceedings from the starting whistle whereas Frankfurt kept all their men behind the ball. It was thus just a matter of time before the German giants would turn their dominance into goals.
With 20 minutes into the game, Bayern broke the deadlock as Ribery capitalised on the rebound from Mario Goezte to beat Frankfurt goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky with a sideways scissor-kick from the edge of the box.
Bayern should have extended the lead but neither Xabi Alonso, who rattled the woodwork following a free kick, nor Thomas Mueller were able to get their names on the scoreboards.
With the result, Bayern maintain their five-point advantage to runners-up Dortmund with six games to spare. Meanwhile, Frankfurt stay on the penultimate position of the standings.
Second-placed Borussia Dortmund remained in pursuit of Bayern as they carved out a 3-2 victory against a resilient Werder Bremen.
Thomas Tuchel's men took over from the kick-off but Bremen's well-positioned defence neutralised nearly every effort in the first half.
However, things changed after the restart as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang lobbed the ball over onrushing Bremen custodian Felix Wiedwald to mark the opener in the 53rd minute.
It was a short-lived joy for the hosts as Bremen bounced back with the goals from Alejandro Galvez and Zlatko Junuzovic in a six-minute span. Dortmund restored parity through substitute Shinji Kagawa moments later.
The hosts had the last laugh after Adrian Ramos ensured the 3-2 lead to seal the deal in the 82nd minute.
Dortmund remain on the second place with a 19-point advantage over third-placed Berlin. Bremen continued on the 14th position and in touching distance of the drop zone.
Elsewhere, bottom team Hannover suffered their 21st loss of the season as Hamburg provided three second-half goals on the road.
Mainz overcame Augsburg 4-2 by courtesy of the braces from Pablo De Blasis and Christian Clemens.
Newly promoted Ingolstadt flabbergasted Schalke 3-0 and Darmstadt shared the spoils with Stuttgart following a 2-2 draw.
