BJP Govt borrowed over Rs 5000 cr in 4 yrs


Panaji, Mar 20: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led state government in the first four years of its term has borrowed more than five thousand crores from various sources from April 2012 till February 29 this year.

This information was provided by the Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar to a reply to the question tabled by Margao MLA Digambar Kamat during the just concluded assembly session.

The state government borrowed Rs 5167.93 crore between April 1, 2012 and February 29 this year.

While the government borrowed Rs 1203.24 crore during the financial year 2012-13, Rs 1296.63 crore was borrowed during the year 2013-14, Rs 1267.37 crore during 2014-15 and Rs 1400.75 crore was borrowed as loan between April 2015 and February 2016. The chief minister also informed that the outstanding loans stand at Rs 10,968.24 crore.

The reply stated that Rs 3,790 crore was borrowed from the Reserve Bank of India over the period of four years. From the central government agency, National Small Savings Fund (NSSF), the government borrowed Rs 276.64 crore and Rs 601.88 crore has been borrowed from National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).

The remaining amount was borrowed from Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) and Power Finance Corporation (PFC).
