Panaji, Mar 13: Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Saturday said the BJP government has undertaken development work worth Rs 10,000 crore in various sectors and this was only possible because of stable and loyal government working for the people.
The development pace has increased in this term of BJP government compared to previous terms of the party-led government, said Parrikar, while speaking at a foundation stone laying function for a subway project at Tar- Bastora junction. The project will have signal system, crash barriers, signage etc.
Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza, Panaji MLA Sidharth Kunkalienkar, Aldona MLA Glen Ticlo were present among others.
PWD highway section will execute the project at a cost of Rs 24.04 crore and the work is expected to be completed with 450 days.
On the occasion, a souvenir, highlighting works undertaken in Aldona constituency, was released at the hands of dignitaries.
Parrikar said that “within a distance of 14 km from my house at Dona Paula up to my office we have taken up 17 projects, in close proximity to the main road, worth Rs 850 crore.”
Commenting on the coconut tree issue, he said that “people who are opposing the government decision on coconut tree are the ones who have already cut down coconut trees and converted land and given to builders.”
Stating that BJP means development, Parsekar said that “during other government’s time, development used to take place only in ministers constituencies but our government thinks of entire Goa as one and therefore, all-round development has taken place everywhere.”
Deputy Chief Minister D’Souza said that “till date it is only the BJP government that has done something in memory of the first chief minister.”
He noted that “308 persons lost their lives in road accidents in the previous year and the government intends to curb mishaps by widening roads in the state and hence, the subway is an important project.” Aldona MLA Ticlo said that “many people have lost their lives at the junction and therefore, the subway project is the need of the hour.”
