Panaji needs honest councillors for smart city project: Parrikar


Panaji, March 6 (IANS): The Goan capital needs an honest and efficient team of councillors to implement the smart city plan, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said on Sunday after casting his vote in the Panaji Municipal Corporation election.

"For execution you need a good team. If people give a good team (then the), smart city (project) will be done well," said Parrikar, who was the chief minister of Goa from 2012 to 2014.

"For a smart city you need a council with integrity," he added.

The Smart Cities Mission is a project of the central government to develop modern infrastructure and use technology in 100 cities with a view to transforming them into citizen friendly and sustainable places.

The union urban development ministry is responsible for implementing the mission in collaboration with the state governments of the respective cities.

Goan capital Panaji is one of the cities selected for the smart city project.
