Unseasonal rain in Mumbai, other Maharashtra areas

Mumbai, Mar 4 (IANS): Thane, Raigad, Mumbai and others parts of Maharashtra experienced unseasonal rain that brought the temperatures down on Friday.

Several areas in the eastern and western suburbs of Mumbai experienced a drizzle or heavy showers at some places accompanied by thunder and lightning.

Other areas were overcast with dark clouds which made the mercury plummet from an average of 35 degrees C to about 22 degrees C.

The unseasonal rains resulted in the slowing down of morning peak hour traffic on both the eastern and western express highways slicing through Mumbai, besides other roads in the city.

It also caused technical problems at Diva and Kurla stations of Mumbai's suburban train services.

Parts of Thane, Raigad, Nashik and Aurangabad districts of Maharashtra have been experiencing rain or thundershowers since Thursday night. Farmers in these districts fear their crops could be damaged by the unseasonal rain.

The weather bureau has forecast cloudy skies for the next 24-48 hours over Mumbai with a slight fall in the maximum and minimum temperatures.
