On September 11, the Dongri police had arrested four persons with fake notes worth Rs1.30lakh. One of the arrested, Ghulam Rabban, had then told the police that the notes had been delivered to him by Jamal Hussain Shaikh. The police laid a trap for him at the Haji Ali dargah which he visited every Friday.
The police also recovered fake notes worth Rs3.01lakh from his possession. Shaikh’s arrest led to the arrests of his associates from Kharghar. Police recovered fake notes worth Rs6lakh and confiscated their Bangladeshi passport and mobiles. “Investigations show the fake notes came from Jessore in Bangladesh,” said deputy commissioner of police, (DCP Zone I), Brijesh Singh.
Singh said, “The quality of notes shows they could have been printed in a bank note press of a country and not by amateurs.”
